Something In My Shoe    Al Simmons

My wife Barbara and I were touring the Yukon Territories in 1980. I had spent quite a bit of time finding great songs to sing but felt I was missing something. I described the kind of song I wished I could find - a song where the audience would clap and yell stuff out. Barb suggested that I write the song myself. When I sing it I still imagine myself walking down Elm Street in front of my friend Byron Halgrimson's house. I was honoured to have Raffi record it on his Rise and Shine album.

As I was going for a walk,

I got as far as half a block.

trouble with my foot, ooh,

CA

There was something in my shoe,

So I took it off and shook it,

G7 F#7 G7 G+

Look it! Look it! Look it!

You know what fell out?

(What fell out?)

A little wee stone. (Clap, clap)

C G7C

So I put my shoe back on my feet

And kept on walking down the street.

As I was going to the store,

A one step, two step, a three step four.

Trouble with my foot, ooh,

There was something in my shoe,

So I took it off and shook it,

Look it! look it! look it!

You know what fell out?

(What fell out?)

A bouncing ball, (boing boing)

And a little wee stone.(clap clap)

So I put my shoe back on my feet

And kept on walking down the street.

I looked both ways to cross the road,

My toes said, "hey, you'd better unload!

You got trouble with your foot". ooh,

There was something in my shoe,

So I took it off and shook it,

Look it! look it! look it!

You know what fell out?

(What fell out?)

A flying bird (tweet, tweet!)

A bouncing ball, (boing, boing!)

And a little wee stone.(clap, clap!)

So I put my shoe back on my feet

And kept on walking down the street.

I went home and stood on the kitchen floor.

I didn't think I’d have any more

Trouble with my foot, ooh,

There was something in my shoe,

So I took it off and shook it,

Look it! look it! look it!

You know what fell out?

(What fell out?)

A locomotive (toot, toot!)

A flying bird (tweet, tweet!)

A bouncing ball, (boing, boing!)

And a little wee stone.(clap, clap!)

So I went to my room in stocking feet,

Climbed into bed and went to sleep.
