I Collect Rocks    Simmons/Whiteley

My youngest son Brad was three years old and obsessed with collecting rocks. The two of us were riding on my bike down a bike path at Caddy Lake when we came upon a brand new gravel road. Brad was overjoyed. When his pockets were full he tucked his pants into his socks and filled his pants with rocks. After hoisting the new heavy weight champion rock hound onto the bike and peddling back to our campsite I wrote about his exploits.

In the studio after recording Counting Feathers ("The ostrich and the peacocks.  Why didn't I collect rocks?") I told Ken that it felt as if we should segue into a song about collecting rocks. He said "But we don't have a song about rocks."  I showed him my lyrics and within 10 minutes we had a hit song. Both songs are featured on my “I Collect Rocks” DVD.
