It
was pouring rain while my six-year-old son and I were driving home. I
started to sing the chorus to this traditional song. Will didn't sing
along, instead he sat in silence looking out the window. I decided to
stop singing and let him enjoy the rain. After about a minute of silence
he began to bounce in his seat, beat on the dashboard and sing in a calypso
rhythm: "He couldn't get up in the morning, he couldn't get up in the
night." When we got home I wrote the rest of the song to go along with
the flavour of his new melody.
